Water play concept

Thank you for providing your feedback on the concept design for the Port Macquarie Aquatic Facility during the public exhibition period, which has now closed.

In response to the large amount of feedback received we are undertaking a review of the concept design and will report on the outcomes of community feedback and a proposed way forward at the 20 October Ordinary Council Meeting.

This action is supported by a resolution passed at the 21 July Ordinary Council Meeting. [Council Meeting Agendas and Minutes - Port Macquarie-Hastings Council]

In the meantime, to give you further context, we’d like to share information and research that formed the basis of how the design options were selected for the preferred design.

Earlier this year we completed a demand analysis to further proof test the recommended strategies put forward in the Aquatic Facilities Strategy, developed by Otium Planning Group (OPG).

The Aquatic Facilities Strategy is a general recommendation of what a typical Regional Level aquatic facility would include.

As part of this strategy, noting that their recommendations were based on broader figures, OPG recommended we undertake a further feasibility study to determine what the needs and requirements are for building a Regional Level Aquatic Leisure Facility in our region to meet the demands of our future population growth and supplement the other existing aquatic facilities at Wauchope and Laurieton.
