To stay up to date on the Beach to Beach Riverwalk Footpath project please visit, Beach to Beach Riverwalk Footpath Port Macquarie Hastings Council (nsw.gov.au)

The Beach to Beach (B2B) Riverwalk Footpath is a community driven project that proposes a 11km continuous shared pathway between North Haven Breakwall and Pilot Beach in the Camden Haven. The first sections of the pathway were constructed earlier in 2003 as a partnership between community, Council and state, on the Laurieton side of the Camden Haven Inlet. The remaining sections of the pathway are titled D3, D5, D8, D10 and, D11 and will complete the B2B shared path. During this time, we have worked closely with the B2B committee who have driven the project since its inception.

A number of the remaining section of pathway intersect sensitive environmental areas, such as mapped coastal areas and Littoral Rainforest. The proposed pathway will look to traverse and/or run adjacent to these areas which have varying ownership which includes, but is not limited to, road reserve, private property, Crown Lands and National Park. Therefore, an Environmental Impacts Statement (EIS) is required in accordance with Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR) have been engaged to complete the EIS and detailed design for the pathway. The detailed design will be developed in conjunction with the EIS outcomes, with the aim to minimise environmental impacts, improve safety, and generally prevent redesigns.

The main objectives of the Beach to Beach Riverwalk include:

  • Improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Provide a shared pathway link between North Haven Beach and Pilot Beach
  • Provide a safe pedestrian access between schools, shops, and community centres
  • Promote healthy activities, exercise and non-motor vehicle travel within the community
  • Maintain and promote environment diversity
  • Provide an important recreational asset that attracts an increase in tourism
  • Deliver community initiatives

The project will assist in appropriately responding to the increased need for recreational facilities, in line with State and Federal Government objectives surrounding “physical activity is important for good health and wellbeing”.

How to get involved:

Community consultation on the concept designs for the remaining sections of pathway was undertaken between 19 November and 22 December 2020. With consideration of community feedback, the detailed designs and EIS are currently being developed. An Engagement Report has been prepared which includes PMHC and KBR responses to community submissions. The full report can be viewed in the document library.

The next opportunity for you to review and provide comment is the public exhibition of the Environmental Impact Statement, when the Development Application (DA) is submitted. All submissions on the EIS will be assessed and responded to by Council’s assessing Planner. An assessment report will be provided to the Northern Regional Planning Panel who will make the final determination of the DA.

Please note that project timeline dates may change in the future as the project team progresses through the final stages of the project and Planning requirements.
