Invitation to Attend a Planning Workshop

In April this year Council asked the Bonny Hills community what they valued about the seven reserves included in the draft Bonny Hills Reserves Master Plan. We heard about when, how and why community members use these reserves, and what they want the future of these areas to look like.

The resounding response was to keep the community feel of each place and to protect the natural environment. Other priorities included improving safety, upgrading amenities, and reducing litter and antisocial behaviour.

Bonny Hills Community Plan

Conserve our surrounding natural environment and wildlife; maintain our village character; promote safe roads; ensure clean water, and sustain our community’s quality of lifestyle but ensuring well-planned and environmentally sensitive development.

Vision for Bonny Hills - Bonny Hills Community Plan, 2019

In October 2019, the Bonny Hills Community Plan was endorsed by Council. The plan is a community-led blueprint, which highlights what is special or unique about the area and reflects the aspirations, strengths and the vision that the community has for its future. It identifies key priorities and actions to achieve the community’s vision - the responsibility for which will be shared between the community and Council.

The Bonny Hills Reserves Master Plan is clearly a high priority for the community with the first objective listed in the Community Plan being the review and update of the 2012 Reserves Master Plan, including all reserves and linkages between them.

Background

In 2012 Council developed and adopted the Bonny Hills Reserves Master Plan to provide a clear, long term strategic vision for Council and community groups to deliver. The Master Plan, which includes Rainbow Beach, the Community Hall and Bartlett’s Beach Reserves, was developed in collaboration with Bonny Hills Progress Association and involved comprehensive community engagement to ensure that the community’s vision for these spaces were understood and captured as key actions. To date, key achievements include:

  • Provision of accessible public amenities within Community Hall Reserve
  • Relocation of public amenities within Rainbow Beach Reserve to increase public space
  • Provision of barbeque and picnic facilities at Bartlett’s Beach Reserve
  • Installation of erosion control structures at Rainbow Beach Reserve
  • Bushland regeneration works along the coastal fringe at Rainbow Beach Reserve
  • Working with Crown Lands to coordinate the Coastal Walk alignment through Reflections Caravan Park.
  • The review and update of the Bonny Hills Reserves Master Plan is the result of a prioritised action in the Bonny Hills Community Plan, adopted by Council in October 2019.
