Earlier this year Council started preparing to write a Disability Strategy to provide a coordinated approach to support and encourage the continued participation of people with a disability in the Port Macquarie-Hastings community.
Why is this important?
In the 2011 census,4,826 people in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area reported needing help in their day to day lives due to a disability. This is approximately 6.6% of our residents which is higher than the NSW State average.
So far we have have worked with the Access Committee and services across the disability sector to come up with what we think are the Big 7 ideas.
Community engagement for this project has now concluded.
