Making of Council Policy (draft)

Consultation has concluded

To streamline and improve the process for creating and updating Council Policies, a review of the existing process has recently occurred.

The emphasis of this review was to:

  • Establish a need for any new Policy
  • Councillor involvement in Policy making
  • Regular Policy reviews.

This review has recommended some changes to the long titled 'Proposing New Policy, Amending Existing Policy and Rescinding Obsolete Policy'. This policy has also been renamed Making of Council Policy.

Some of the proposed changes include:

  • Inclusion of definitions of Policy and Procedure and Guidelines
  • Renaming 'process' to 'procedure'.
  • Aligning review cycles with Ordinary Local Government Election period (4 years).
  • Public exhibition of Policy intended for rescission.
