Making a decision about future rates.

We need your help to make some important decisions about future rate levels.

Council provides services and facilities across 32 towns, villages and rural localities spread across an area of 3686 square kilometres. Servicing an area of this size is a challenge and like many other NSW councils, our roads, footpaths, buildings, drainage and other community assets need to be managed and continually upgraded (see Fact sheet 5 Council services and income)

Since 2012, a Special Rate Variation (SRV) has provided extra funds to help improve our road network (see Fact Sheet 4 - Current rate variation achievements). When this expires on June 30, 2017, Council is faced with 2 Scenarios - either to reduce the work being undertaken or to seek a new SRV to maintain the level of work being undertaken.

Over the past year Council has been listening to community views about the level of service you would like us to provide (see Fact Sheet 1 - Talking to the community). This information has helped to develop these two scenarios (see Fact sheet 3 - Rate Scenarios)

Council invites you to have a look at these scenarios and to share your thoughts and feelings about how each of these scenarios may impact on you.

  1. Reduce Scenario - No rate increase above the estimated 2.5% rate peg.
The current SRV will cease on 30 June 2017 and rates will increase by the NSW Rate Peg only
(see Fact Sheet 2 - Rate Pegging and Special Rate Variations).

  2. Maintain Scenario - Estimated rate peg increase of 2.5% PLUS Special Rate Variation 3.96%.
The existing SRV ends and is replaced with a new permanent SRV of 3.96 % plus the additional rate peg.
