Consultation has concluded

Consultation closed: From 10 August to 15 September 2021 we engaged with the community about what they value, how they use Rocks Ferry Reserve and what to consider when rebuilding after flood damage early this year.

We received 130 survey responses. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.

View the engagement snapshot to hear what are the community value and love about the reserve.

Next Steps

We have started works to make the open space recreation and beach access safe and are working on an access point for the boat ramp for summer. We understand the importance of the boat ramp, however, this will take considerable time to reinstate.

Community feedback will be reviewed and an approach for the redevelopment of Rocks Ferry will be determined.

Project overview

Rocks Ferry Reserve is a much-loved outdoor recreational reserve for the Wauchope community. It was the place where we enjoyed Wauchope’s Riverwalk, boat ramp, river beach, playground and picnic facilities - a riverside retreat on hot summer days.

Significant work is required at the Rock Ferry site due to the extensive damage to the riverbank and loss of facilities during the March 2021 flood. The boat ramp, boat ramp access, car park, children’s playground, fish cleaning table and footpath were severely damaged or swept away in the flood waters. Wauchope has lost a significant outdoor recreational facility and its access to the river for boating.

We understand the damage caused by the flood has been a source of community concern. We want to carefully consider the future of the Reserve based on your thoughts and experiences.
