Consultation has concluded

Port Macquarie Airport is owned and operated by Port Macquarie - Hastings Council (PMHC). PMHC wishes to implement a strategic and sustainable approach to the management and offsetting of environmental impacts associated with the long-term operation and future development of essential infrastructure related to the Airport.

PMHC is proposing to undertake clearing of native vegetation associated with the implementation of the Port Macquarie Airport Master Plan and to undertake vegetation clearing on Council owned land for future residential and industrial development in the Thrumster Urban Release Area, Port Macquarie, NSW.

The proposed action has been determined to be a “controlled action” under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act and will therefore require assessment and approval under the EPBC Act before it can proceed. The controlling provision under the EPBC Act is “Listed threatened species and communities” (Sections 18 and 18A) and the assessment approach is through Preliminary Documentation.

On 13 December 2018, the draft Preliminary Documentation was placed on public exhibition for comment until 14 February 2019 (40 business days). During this period, three (3) submissions were received. The Preliminary Documentation report has now been finalised to respond, where required, to these submissions.

Copies of the final Preliminary Documentation are available to view in the Document Library (see right) and at Council’s offices & Libraries in Laurieton, Port Macquarie and Wauchope for 10 days. Copies are also available to view at State Library of NSW – Macquarie St, Sydney NSW, 2000. Alternatively, the documents may also be obtained as hardcopy or digital (CD) format, from Council’s Customer Service Centres.

Persons with special needs (i.e. for whom English is a second language or who have a vision impairment) may contact Robert Humphries at Eco Logical Australia on (02) 8536 8620 for assistance in accessing the documentation in digital (CD) format.

Council is seeking your feedback on this documentation.

Submissions close 5pm 21 October 2019.
