Council currently delivers, supports and facilitates a number of events across the region. The Tastings on Hastings event has been key to Council leading the development of the marketplace for local farming and producers industry from its commencement in 2002, when there were limited opportunities for local farmers, producers and restaurateurs to showcase and exhibit their specialist products.

Over the years, the Tastings on Hastings program has evolved and grown while still supporting and nurturing the growth of this local industry to the point now where our region hosts over 20 opportunities for farmers and producers to sell and market their goods throughout the year.

The industry sector is now also supported by other commercially run events such as Slice of Haven, Wauchope Farmers Markets, The Real Food Markets, Oysters in the Vines, Blues and BBQ Festival, The Foreshore Markets, The Twilight Markets, The Artists Markets and regular monthly degustations, demonstrations and tours, which form part of the Port Macquarie-Hastings experience for visitors and locals alike.

The cost to deliver Tastings on Hastings is approximately $150,000 which is offset by sponsorship, grant funding, income from market stalls and gate entry fees resulting in a net cost to Council of $40,000 - $60,000 per event.

Tastings on Hastings has been a much-loved event on the annual event calendar. We do need to ensure however that Council is delivering value for our community; that the event is still relevant and meeting the community’s expectations.
