Restriction on the keeping of dogs in koala habitat areas at Thrumster

Pursuant to the Local Government Act 1993 and Regulation 2005, notice is given of the above proposed local orders policy (draft policy).

At its meeting on 20 September 2017, Council resolved to place the proposed local orders policy (draft policy) on public exhibition.

The purpose of the draft policy is to protect the welfare of wildlife, in particular koalas, within specified Koala Habitat Areas.

The general effect of the of the draft policy would be to restrict the keeping of domestic dogs in certain areas of Koala Habitat as recommended by the Koala Plan of Management prepared for Thrumster.

The draft policy supplements the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993 and the Local Government (Orders) Regulation by specifying Council’s policy in regards to orders relating to the keeping of animals.

Any person may make a submission in respect to the proposed policy. Submissions should be received no later than close of business Wednesday 1 November 2017.
