Biodiversity certification plan for Airport & surrounds

Consultation has concluded

Work is continuing for the expansion of the airport and you can have your say on how Council is planning to manage to protect the biodiversity of this area.

As part of the work required, the Airport needs to clear or crop vegetation near the runway and flight paths to meet aviation safety standards, as well as planning commercial space for a potential increase in businesses.

Before any land clearing can be done Council needs to give thought to conserve important ecological areas and where necessary, compensate for proposed vegetation loss areas. A draft Bio-certification Strategy (also known as ‘Bio-Certification’) is the plan for how Council plans to manage this.
