Community and Expert Panels

about 4 years ago

After calling for members to join the Expert Panel and Community Panels, these panels have now been selected and are meeting regularly.

The Expert Panel includes ecologists (specialising in flora and fauna), and one geologist. These people operate private consulting businesses, work for State Government agencies (such as State Forests and the Office of Environment and Heritage) and are representatives of key local organisations, such as the Hastings Birdwatchers and Koala Hospital.

The Community Panel has been selected to include a range of diverse interests, from the development industry, local planners and local people with an interest in the environment. The Panel also includes Councillor Trevor Sargeant and Councillor Lisa Intemann.

Staff from Council coordinate these meetings and each Panel has now met three times. The meetings have spanned such topics as:

  • An Introduction to the Aims/Objectives of the Biodiversity Strategy;
  • Consideration of the “Biological Assets” precious to the Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA;
  • Consideration of the threats to biodiversity in the Port Macquarie LGA;
  • Discussion of the methodology being used.

Much stimulating discussion has been had, and we greatly thank the people comprising the Community and Expert Panels for their diverse insights and contribution of local knowledge.

Consultation on the initial stages of this project has concluded. Make sure you are registered so that we can let you know about any future opportunities to have your say.
