Consultation has concluded

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has prepared a Biodiversity Strategy for the Local Government Area.

This Biodiversity Strategy aims to guide and enable strategic growth and development while conserving biodiversity values by:

  • Identifying biological priority areas in LGA.
  • Identifying islands/patches of contiguous vegetation and where the key habitat linkages and connections are between this vegetation.
  • Identifying threats to biodiversity.
  • Defining Actions to protect priority areas and reduce threats.
  • Providing strategic direction and information to guide investment on private and public lands in a voluntary manner.

The Biodiversity Strategy is a document designed to provide information and aid strategic planning. It does not change any landholder’s rights or responsibilities as defined under other legislation. Participation by private landholders in any initiative outlined in the Biodiversity Strategy will be purely on a voluntary basis.

At the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Ordinary Council Meeting held on 19 June 2019, Council resolved to place the revised Draft Biodiversity Management Strategy (the Strategy) on public exhibition for a period of twenty-eight (28) days.

A copy of the draft Biodiversity Management Strategy may be inspected online or at Council’s Customer Service Centre in Burrawan Street, Port Macquarie, Council’s Wauchope Offices, Council’s Laurieton Branch Office between 8.30am and 4.30pm on normal business days and the front counter of Council libraries.

Any person may inspect the Biodiversity Strategy and make a written submission until 25 July 2019. Please include your contact details so that your submission can be formally acknowledged. Note that any submission may be made public, and public disclosure is required for any political donations or gifts (including to staff). Submissions are subject to the provisions of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
