This consultation has now concluded.

The Climate Change Response Policy (the Policy) was developed with the former Sustainability Advisory Sub Committee and adopted at the October 2021 Ordinary Council meeting. The February 2022 Ordinary Council Meeting rescinded Council’s Climate Change Emergency Declaration, as resolved at its March 2021 Ordinary Council Meeting, and requested the Climate Change Response Policy to be updated, removing references to the Climate Change Emergency Declaration. The revised Policy was put to Council at the March 2022 Ordinary Council Meeting; however, it was resolved to publicly exhibit the proposal to rescind the Climate Change Response Policy.

At the October 2022 Council Meeting, Council resolved to not rescind the Policy and place the revised draft Climate Change Response Policy on public exhibition from Monday 24 October 2022 until Sunday 20 November 2022.

The changes to the draft Policy include:

  • References to Council’s previous climate emergency declaration removed (as rescinded on 16/02/2022)
  • Inclusion of the NSW Government 2030 emission reduction target; and
  • Administrative and policy alignment updates.
