Consultation has concluded
Council is currently reviewing its policies on Councillor Inductions and Councillor Professional Development in line with the guidelines issued by the Office of Local Government and has prepared a draft Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy. The purpose of this policy is to demonstrate Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s commitment to ensuring that the Mayor and Councillors have access to induction and ongoing professional development which will assist them to develop and maintain the skills and knowledge required to effectively perform their civic role and responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1993.
This policy will ensure elected Councillors:
Have equal access to professional development opportunities.
Are afforded appropriate and relevant skill and knowledge development to assist them in their role as elected representatives.
Have the skills and knowledge to make effective decisions.
Following consideration of a draft Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy at the Ordinary Council meeting held 15 September 2021, Council resolved:
That Council:
Place on public exhibition for a minimum of twenty-eight (28) days, the draft Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy.
Note that a further report will be considered at the November 2021 Ordinary meeting of Council, detailing the submissions received from the public during the exhibition period.
