Draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy
You are invited to submit your feedback on the draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy (ESS).
The draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy (ESS) has been prepared to provide high level strategic direction on key environmental challenges and opportunities facing Port Macquarie-Hastings. It will be used to guide us from where we are today to our desired environmental outcomes over the next 10 years.
About the Draft Strategy
The draft strategy outlines our commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural environment that makes our region such a special place to live, work, and play.
It sets priority areas to improve environmental sustainability, addressing current and future challenges and opportunities.
Aligned with our Community Strategic Plan, it ensures we meet our legislative obligations and integrate the principles of ecologically sustainable development into our decision-making.
What's included?
The draft ESS takes a region-wide approach, recognising the importance of collaboration with key stakeholders to drive meaningful change.
By balancing environmental sustainability with civic leadership, social and economic priorities, it reflects our commitment to protecting ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, and maintaining the quality of life for current and future generations.
This is our first Environmental Sustainability Strategy to guide planning, decisions and actions to achieve relevant objectives of the CSP. It has 4 key areas of focus to:
Protect and enhance our natural areas, waterways and biodiversity;
Increase community resilience to environmental change and natural hazards;
Lead by example to reduce energy, water, waste and emissions from Council operations;
Improve the environmental sustainability of our built environment, transport and infrastructure.
