Housing

What is being proposed?

A Local Housing Strategy outlines how and where housing will be delivered to meet the community’s needs now and into the future.

The Draft Local Housing Strategy identifies what makes parts of Port Macquarie-Hastings Region more or less suitable for housing development, and what types of housing might be delivered. Where could new housing be located to benefit the community? What types of housing might suit a location in 10 or 20 years? Council’s draft Housing Strategy considers these important questions and more.

Planning housing for a growing region

Council engaged consultants to prepare a draft Local Housing Strategy 2041 (LHS), which sets a framework for the provision of housing across our region over the next 20 years. The Strategy is accompanied by an Implementation Plan, which aims to translate the findings of the Strategy into actions.

The NSW Government requires all Councils to prepare a Local Housing Strategy to address how additional housing will be delivered to accommodate the expected growth of our area to 2041.

The Port Macquarie-Hastings region has been growing faster than other regions on the Mid-North Coast. We want to take a proactive approach in the development of a prosperous and liveable region that provides a range of housing options for our community.

Ways to have your say

You are invited to review the Draft Local Housing Strategy, Executive Summary and FAQ's and provide your feedback. There are a number of ways you can have your say:

  • Register to attend an information session.
  • Take our survey to provide feedback on individual priorities of the proposed Local Housing Strategy.
  • Or make a submission by providing any general thoughts, ideas or concerns you may have relating to the draft strategy.

Feedback can also be provided by:

  • Emailing council@pmhc.nsw.gov.au
  • Posting to The Chief Executive Officer, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, PO Box 84, Port Macquarie NSW 2444.

The Housing Strategy is on public exhibition for 60 days, from Wednesday, 14 July to Sunday, 12 September 2021. The draft strategy, background reports and supporting information will be available to view at Council Offices and Libraries across the region.

Next Steps

After the exhibition closes, we will review and consider community feedback before finalising the strategy.

All submissions received will be reported to a Council Meeting for consideration prior to the draft Local Housing Strategy being finalised and referred to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for approval. Anyone who makes a submission will be notified of the Council Meeting.
