Draft Wastewater Services Policy

The Draft Wastewater Services Policy was adopted by Council at the 18 July 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting.
Thank you to those who reviewed the Have Your Say and draft policy during the exhibition period.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 16 May 2024, Council resolved to put the Draft Wastewater Services Policy on public exhibition no later than Monday 27 May 2024 for a minimum of 28 days.

The Draft Wastewater Services Policy is a new Policy for Council.

The Policy covers Council system, networks and services, fees and charges, and internal processes and requirements, as well as providing a formally adopted Council position on Wastewater Management and the related service provisions within the Local Government Area. Because there has not been a Policy to cover this before, this formal position has not existed previously.

Key points in the Policy:

• Outlines the various wastewater systems operated and managed by Council
• Outlines the wastewater services provided by Council, including what is the responsibility of Council and those of landowners and community members who are utilising the services and facilities that Council provide;
• Outlines the wastewater service process, what can and cannot enter the system and where other materials should go;
• Management of blockages, chokes and overflows form the system;
• Communicates the requirement of liquid trade waste and disposal of liquid waste;
• The availability and use of RV/caravan dump points;
• Levels of service for Council provision of wastewater services;
• Uses relating to greywater;
• Practices and requirements for new developments and requirements for additional mains;
• Specifications for design and construction and approval requirements of wastewater infrastructure;
• Requirements and considerations when looking to build over or near underground infrastructure;
• Explains the fees and charges relating to all wastewater services, connections and other related services;
• Talks to non-residential sewer charges and related discharge factors - noting these are not yet implemented as outlined in the Policy, but are Best Practice and this methodology will be transitioned to in time.
