Consultation has concluded

We are in the process of developing a community facing principle and objectives-based Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy to provide direction for Council’s water supply, wastewater, and stormwater management service delivery to the community. The aim of the Strategy is to provide direction for the future Port Macquarie Hasting Region water needs out to 2045 in a balanced and sustainable manner.

Councillors endorsed the draft Strategy on 21 March 2024, you can find the draft strategy on the right-hand side of this page under documents. The community is invited to have their say on the draft strategy via the details listed below.

What is Integrated Water Cycle Management?

Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM) is defined as the collective management of water supply, wastewater, and stormwater services within the Local Government Area, taking into account catchment blueprints and other water management plans.

IWCM helps to identify water management strengths and problems; to address these problems; to determine the appropriate management responses; and to manage the impacts so that social, environmental, and economic objectives are met.

Where does our water come from?

Water for our region is stored in several dams and reservoirs. These are replenished from the Hastings River, under strict conditions. Water is then treated to make it safe for everyone to use.

What is water security?

Water security is about our community having access to an adequate, reliable, and resilient quantity and quality of water for health, livelihoods, ecosystems, and productive economies.

Determining water security

Water security is assessed by investigating the highest annual volume of water we predict that we can get from our water supply scheme, without breaching certain requirements. We understand how important the Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy is to the community and we want to hear your feedback.
