This consultation has concluded. A report will be presented to Council including a compilation of the engagement and a recommendation for the location of the facility.

Waste for LandfillBased on the current usage it is estimated that the existing Dunbogan waste landfill site has approximately 18 months of capacity left.

This means Council needs to finalise plans for a new waste management facility that will serve the Camden Haven and southern end of the Local Government Area into the future.

Four potential options for a new waste management facility have been considered, with concept designs and preliminary cost estimates developed for each site. The sites being considered are;

  • Site 1: Old ‘Taylor’ quarry site originally identified as a waste management facility site in 2000. Lot 100(pt)DP1130726
  • Site 2: Land located north of Kew on Herons Creek Road. Lot 14(pt), DP 1103758.
  • Site 3: Existing Dunbogan Waste Landfill. Lot 259 & 273, DP 754405.

A fourth site was considered on land located immediately north of Kew between Nancy Bird Walton Drive and Pacific Highway, however this was not considered appropriate due to its close proximity to the Kew urban area.

After preliminary assessment, Council has identified Site 2 as a preferred option. However, it is important to seek the community's opinion on the location of a new waste management facility.

Download the concept plans for each site and the comparison fact page from the document library.

UPDATE: June 14

A correction has been made to the Lot number for Site 1, which had been incorrectly labelled.

Following initial feedback a further plan showing the location of Sites 1 and 2 to Kew and the surrounding areas, has been added to the document library.

Submissions will close on Wednesday 3 July, 2013 and a recommendation will be made to the Council.
