Lake Road

Changes to Jindalee Roundabout

Lake Road has a poor crash history and is one of the most critical road links in Port Macquarie. Following the recent works to the Blackbutt and Lake Road Roundabout, Council has continued to review and receive feedback about further improvements to Lake Road.

Feedback about the intersection of Lake Road and Jindalee Road has led to work being planned to improve traffic movements through this intersection. Lake Road is busy and after considering a range of time frames to undertake this work, January has been identified as having less traffic. Work is set to commence on Monday 9 January and will take approximately 4 weeks to complete.

During this work, detour and directional signage will be in place with access for businesses and residents maintained to minimise disruption. Please exercise caution and follow traffic control signage to ensure personal safety.

Note: Due to the nature of the work to be done, it is not possible to do this work as 'night work;.

You can learn more by viewing:

Council appreciates the continued patience of the community and surrounding businesses as these important works are progressed.

Please allow a little extra time and continue to support businesses in the area - all of which will remain accessible during the works. We recommend that residents who are looking to use Lake Road to transit between the Oxley Highway and Ocean Drive only, should consider alternate routes.

    • No entry into Blackbutt Road from Lake Road (access to Blackbutt Road via Jindalee Road and Bolwarra Road),
    • Left turn only from Blackbutt Road into Lake Road,
You can have a look at the Traffic Flow Diagram(External link) to see what is planned.

Lake Road requires further work to improve the safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.

In July 2014 Council was successful in receivingBlackspot fundingfrom the Australian Government which will match Council dollar for dollar to improve the road.

After consultation with a number of directly affected businesses from September 2014 to February 2015, a design was developed with Phase 1 of this work commencing November last year. Phase 2 of this work in now in progress.

At a Council meeting in March, the tender was awarded to Ditchfield Contracting who will be undertaking this important work.

  • Curious about what is happening in Lake Road?

    Lake road facing east

Work has now started to improve the safety of Lake Road and Council is working with local businesses and the wider community to keep any negative impact to a minimum. During the construction vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses.

This work includes creating a roundabout at Blackbutt Road and a centre median strip and road work to change traffic movement into Chestnut Road and Acacia Avenue. These changes will improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians.

This work will cause traffic disruptions whilst work is being undertaken as traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. There may be some periods where night works will occur between 6.00pm and 6.00am to complete some work where complete shutdown is required.
