In 2013, the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) called for tenders for the design and construction for the upgrade of the Pacific Highway between the Oxley Highway and Kundabung. Lend Lease were awarded the contract and works on a new mainline highway are presently underway.

Once the new Pacific Highway is opened to traffic, the present Pacific Highway will be handed over to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council with the current highway to become a series of service roads. With the exception of Service Road 2 as detailed below, the RMS has requested Council to determine new road names for the service roads plus an ancillary road associated with the highway upgrade. These roads are highlighted on the plan - click here to view, and comprise:

· Road 1 - Service Road between Fernbank Creek Road and Hastings River Drive

· Road 2 - Service Road between Hastings River Drive and the Blackmans Point Interchange . Note: To be named Hastings River Drive

· Road 3 - Service Road between Blackmans Point Interchange and Haydons Wharf Road Interchange

· Road 4 - The remnant section of Blackmans Point Road resulting from the connection of the newly aligned Blackmans Point Road to the Interchange

You are invited to submit a name(s) for the roads required to be named as part of the Pacific Highway upgrade.

Whilst Council conducts the road naming process, it is the Geographical Names Board (GNB) that endorses and approves of the allocation of road names. The GNB has set out guidelines for the naming of road: the guidelines being reflected in Council's Policy "Naming and Renaming of Roads" which can be found by clicking here.

If you would like to submit a name or names for any of the roads, please ensure that:

· the chosen name or names meet the naming guidelines,

· you identify which of the roads you wish the name to represent,

· you provide as much background information as possible as to the suggested name

· your suggested names are received at Council by Friday 25 March 2016
