Consultation has concluded

The Places to Play Plan serves as a key tool for effectively guiding the development, implementation and sustainable management of spaces and places throughout our region.

With over 380 hectares of public open space which includes parks, reserves, beaches, and sport facilities, it is essential to have a well-designed plan that outlines a hierarchy of high-quality spaces and places. This plan not only ensures a variety of opportunities for diverse experiences but also ensures an equitable distribution of places to play across the region.

The Places to Play Plan aims to provide our community with high quality inclusive places to play that are diverse, accessible, and engaging that contribute to a healthy and active lifestyle supporting social connections.

A place to play is a designated area that facilitates different forms of play, both structured and unstructured. It encompasses the entirety of the environment, including natural elements, built infrastructure and supporting facilities. By providing this space, people of all ages and abilities are able to engage in safe, playful activities and enjoy a range of recreational opportunities.

The Places to Play Plan encompasses: Play Space, Outdoor Courts, Sport Field Facilities, Indoor and Aquatic Facilities, Skate Parks, Outdoor Fitness Equipment, Water Access and Fishing Areas, Off-leash Areas and Designated Dog Parks, Community Gardens, and Walking and Cycling Areas.

Section one of the Places to Play Plan: Play Spaces

Council plays an important role in providing play spaces for the community. Section one of the plan establishes direction to capture equitable distribution of quality play spaces, inclusive and accessible play spaces, and co-location with other facilities that already have parking and amenities. We recognise the importance of planning for growth and investing in the right infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing community.

People are encouraged to have their say via the survey below and an interactive map where pins can be dropped on a mapping tool to share ideas for better community places, spaces, across our neighbourhoods.
