Policy Review - Draft Cemeteries Policy

Public cemeteries are treasured community spaces. There are 11 public cemeteries that are managed by Council in:

• Beechwood *
• Comboyne
• Cross Roads *
• Ellenborough *
• Herons Creek **
• Kendall Cemetery
• Laurieton Cemetery
• Port Macquarie *
• Rollands Plains
• Telegraph Point *
• Wauchope

As manager of public cemeteries we value feedback from all users of cemeteries as well as key partners in interment services such as local funeral directors and other interested agencies and their customers. Find out more information on the cemeteries in our region.

The revised Cemeteries Policy will be on exhibition from Wednesday 23 March - Friday 22 April and is available to view in the document library to the right (or below if viewing this page on a mobile device).

What are the key differences between the old and new draft policies?

• The new cemeteries policy references the current legislative requirements that guide how we manage cemeteries ( NSW Cemeteries & Crematoria Act 2013)
• Additionally, the revised policy removes procedural detail and reference to the Innes Garden Crematorium which is no longer owned or operated by Council.

* indicates cemeteries that are closed for new burials but which we retain important responsibilities to ensure that records are kept and that the grounds are maintained and kept safe.
** Herons Creek monumental section only is closed
