If you’ve got a great idea on how we can celebrate and create a vibrant atmosphere in our new Town Square over the busy summer period, then Council would like to hear from you.
Expressions of interest are being sought for events and activities that will attract locals and visitors, provide a great community atmosphere and really bring the space to life.
The upgrade to the Town Square provides a versatile space that can continue to be used for central car parking, and also transformed to accommodate events, business activities and community celebrations.
Groups, organisations and individuals can apply to Council to hold an event or activity, with the successful ideas receiving assistance from Council. This includes obtaining the necessary approvals and helping with the required paperwork.
Council will also actively promote the event or activity to assist in making it a success.

The project will
see the transformation of the popular Town Square into a more vibrant, usable
and accessible space, providing an attractive new gathering environment for
locals and visitors to the CBD.
Local
businesses and the community will benefit from a new, open and inviting
space that will be a real drawcard for families and visitors, and add to the
wonderful facilities that are provided within the CBD and along our foreshore. The area
will be transformed to include new al fresco dining areas and wider footpaths, with
new seating and feature lighting making the area a more inviting place to
relax. Mature tree specimens will replace the old trees, allowing for clear
views to the river from Clarence Street and to provide extra shade.
In addition,
removable bollards will be installed to allow for the square to be easily
transformed into a vehicle free pedestrian plaza for events, markets and
festivals.
During the
works pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained, with vehicles
having restricted access to the Town Square loop. Disabled parking will be
relocated to Clarence Street for the duration of the work.
Work is
expected to be completed prior to the busy Christmas holiday period in mid-December
this year (subject to favourable weather conditions and unforseen delays).

Works to upgrade Town Green will commence on Monday 15 May as part of major facelifts taking place in the Port Macquarie CBD, in accordance with the
Town Centre Master Plan.
Town Green East will be a hive of activity as Stage 1 works get underway to renovate and transform this popular central green space.
To allow for the implementation of the new design, existing trees will be removed and replaced with established trees, new turf and irrigations systems.
A new, wider 5 metre concrete path along the foreshore will provide a more comfortable and accessible link between Lady Nelson Wharf and the breakwall, and new lighting and seating will create a more usable and relaxing space.
The sea wall will also be rejuvenated, with 2,500 tonnes of new rock being brought in to protect the area. Stormwater upgrades will occur and the existing power and lighting will be replaced to make the area more appealing.
Pedestrian access between the Town Square and breakwall will be maintained, however the community are asked to exercise caution as the works take place.
Works are scheduled for completion in November this year, subject to favourable weather and unforeseen delays.
