Consultation has concluded

Background

As the second stage of the Town Green West Upgrade, our popular Town Green playground is due for an upgrade! This follows on from the stage 1 which includes the upgrade to the foreshore pathway and reserve.

The project continues on from the Town Green East Upgrade which was completed earlier in 2017 and will extend the community space from the east and provide a significant space for the community and visitors to enjoy the foreshore and CBD.

Recently, we asked the community for feedback on the concept design for the playground. Significant community response was received and from this, we’ve developed a final design and we want to hear if you have any last comments! We’ve also created an infographic of what we heard from our community and how responses have influenced the final design.

The upgrades to Town Green West, including the Town Green playground is a $2.13 million project, with $633,500 provided by the Town Centre Masterplan Committee (through contributions levied on commercial property owners within the Port Macquarie CBD). The Australian Government has provided $1.5 million through a Community Development Grant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has Aboriginal and European Heritage been considered?

Yes. As part of the Heritage Assessment, investigation into the heritage of the site and the potential of uncovering items of cultural significance was undertaken. From this, construction and design measures have been put in place to mitigate potential impacts to the site.

Will the fig tree be retained?

The fig tree located at Town Green is a much-loved aspect of the area and is considered part of the play space. It will not be removed.

Are there play equipment constraints regarding the heritage of the site?

Yes. Due to the cultural significance of the site and the mitigation measures in place to protect the site, construction depth will be restricted. Equipment foundations will need to be shallow and laying of underground pipes will be restricted. This means, tall structures and water play areas will not be able to be incorporated into the new playground.

We would love for you to view the final design and let us know if you have any final feedback in the survey section below.
