The brand new Kew Transfer Station. Concrete floor with huge aluminum veranda, with giant garbage bins.

Waste generation, recovery, treatment and disposal is a significant issue in the world today, with environmental, social and economic implications. Have your say about the strategic planning for waste management services and facilities in our local area.

The Port Macquarie-Hastings Waste Strategy: 2017 – 2024 is designed to provide a framework and an informed and sustainable direction for all of Council’s waste and resource management activities over the next eight years. It has been developed to focus on specific and unique local issues and challenges, building upon the momentum gained through the implementation of the previous Waste and Resource Management Strategy, which concluded in 2015.

Your feedback will help us:

  • To increase best practice resource recovery within our local area
  • To secure the long term future disposal capacity for the community while continuing to reduce waste to landfill
  • To determine what the community feels should be our priority
  • To identify any gaps or problem areas

To get involved and have your say:

  • You can have a look at the strategies (located in the document Library on the right):

    • The old strategy "2011-2015 Waste and Resource Management Strategy"; and
    • The new draft strategy "Waste Strategy 2017 - 2024" (to be adopted in 2017).
