Increasing the size of the Westport Boat Ramp

Consultation has concluded on this project and work is currently underway

Do you launch yourself into the water at the Westport Boat Ramp, to throw a line or to spend your day enjoying yourself on the local waters? Then this project will be of interest to you.

Council is currently in the process of widening and upgrading the boat ramp and improving the car parking area to better meet the needs of our local community. To keep disruption to a minimum, work is happening in 3 stages.

Stage 1.
Upgrading the car parking area, footpath to the pontoon and relocating the fish cleaning table to run alongside footpath.

Stage 2.
Widening the ramp and replacing the planks.

Stage 3.
Reinstating the existing boat launching pontoon and installing a second one on the northern side.

Work on the Westport Boat Ramp is progressing with an extended completion date of the end of August. This extension in construction time frames has been due to the staging of works so that some access remains for boat users during construction.

  • Plank replacement??

During the scoping for the new design, it was discovered that the concrete boat ramp planks were showing signs of failing and would need to be replaced in the near future.

Given the significant work already occurring, now is a good time to replace these planks to keep costs down and to reduce disruption to those who use this facility.

The new planks will be precast and will take around 8 weeks from when they are ordered to arrive.

You may notice that dates given in the stages timeline are approximate. This is to due to the influence that the weather has in completing work. Work done to replace the precast concrete planks and foundation rock will be carried out below the high tide mark, meaning works will need to be scheduled during times of low tide.
