Water play concept

Consultation closed: Thank you to everyone who recently provided feedback on the proposed concept design for the Port Macquarie Aquatic Facility. We are currently reviewing the feedback and will provide an update on the next stages of the project shortly.

Overview

Council has been working with the community on the development of a future aquatic facility in Port Macquarie, including determining location and potential facilities. We are now up to the next stage of engagement.

A concept design has now been developed for the new Port Macquarie Aquatic Facility (PMAF) and you are invited to have your say!

The new facility, to be located at Macquarie Park, Port Macquarie, is designed to meet the future needs of our community. The design aims to be modern, inclusive, accessible, and financially and environmentally sustainable.

We are asking for your feedback on some of the elements of the new design to make sure that the new facility is a place that is functional, fun and fabulous, and represents the collective vision of the community.

What is included in the concept design?

The concept design includes the following elements:

  • Outdoor 50 metre x 25 metre pool (10 lanes at 2.5m wide);
  • Indoor program pool (20 metres x 10 metres);
  • Outdoor (sheltered) water play with 750mm deep area;
  • Outdoor slides (tower base with two slides);
  • Café;
  • Program/fitness rooms;
  • Outdoor recreation areas for mixed use
  • Indoor aquatic expansion area (allowance for future expansion).

For more detailed information on what is included and to view the plan please read the Information Brochure.

What are we asking for feedback on?

We would like to hear your feedback on the following:

  • Layout/circulation and flow
  • Size, type and inclusions of the splash pad and waterslides
  • Accessibility elements
  • Number, type and location of program rooms / café
  • Cultural or design considerations (public art, overall aesthetic)

We are not actively engaging on the number and type of swimming pools as these have been determined by the demand analysis and best practice for pool design; including flexible design for varied use. However, we welcome and appreciate all feedback provided.
