The Boom Reserve play space concept design is now open for your feedback. The Boom Reserve is a deliverable in the Places to Play Plan that guides the development, management, and sustainability of public spaces across the region. This plan, designed to ensure high-quality recreational opportunities and equitable distribution of facilities, addresses evolving community needs in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area.

What to Expect

The reserve is proposed to have improved footpath access into the area, landscape treatments and various forms of play. The area has been designed with both built and natural elements to compliment the local surroundings. Some equipment pieces and furniture are proposed to be retained or relocated in the space as they have not yet reached the end of useful life.

People of all ages and abilities can engage in safe, playful activities and enjoy a range of recreational opportunities. The space includes exciting play equipment that encourages physical activity, creativity, and inclusivity.

The nautical themed play space design is proposed to be enhanced with

  • Improved path access to the reserve
  • Additional climb and slide play structure
  • Rustic pier and mooring treatments
  • Restoration of existing swing and glide and ride equipment pieces
  • Landscaping and pathway access improvements

Local Level Play Spaces

The Boom is classified as a local level play space. Local level play spaces make up 75 percent of the play space network in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region and generally have 0.25-1ha of usable land. They provide basic level play equipment for the local community and visitors tend to stay for approximately 30-60 minutes. Ideally these play spaces will be located within a 1km walk of all residential areas. Local level play spaces do not include public toilets, drinking fountain, car parking, security lighting, and artificial shade.

Benefits for Everyone

Upgrading play spaces isn't just about replacing old equipment it's about creating vibrant community hubs where families can come together, children can make new friends, and everyone can enjoy the outdoors. These spaces promote health, happiness, and a sense of belonging for all who use them.
