Every four years Council reviews the Providing Funding and Support to the Community Policy.

As part of this review, the policy has been expanded to incorporate a more consistent and transparent approach, which strengthens our ability to support community organisations.

Council has a long-standing approach to supporting community organisations through a combination of grants, donations, subsidies, in-kind support and rate-based assistance.

Integrating rates support into the existing policy ensures all forms of assistance are managed within a single governance framework and reduces the risks associated with ad hoc or discretionary funding decisions.

Key elements of the proposed framework include:

  • Clear eligibility and assessment criteria
  • A formal application and approval process
  • Time-limited and reviewable support arrangements
  • Integration with other support mechanisms such as grants and in-kind assistance.
