Port Macquarie-Hastings Council maintains 66 playgrounds across the municipality. In 2017/18 we are upgrading the playground at the Showground, Long Flat.

New features for the playground will include:

  • Working with volunteers from the community to relocate small shed outside the playground boundary and paint existing shelters
  • Expansion of the fenced area to include a grassed slope with a slide
  • Bush tucker garden
  • Nature Play Obstacle Course
  • New Combination Play Unit
  • Extension of the bike path
  • Flower Garden to be planted by Preschool children
  • Musical play chimes
  • Upgraded sandpit

Key objectives for the upgrade include:

  • More shade and seating
  • Diversity of equipment
  • Addition of natural play elements eg logs, and rocks

A final Concept Plan has been developed and is available for viewing.

    This project was a collaboration between Council and Long Flat Community Pre-School with the pre-school contributing over $20,000 toward the project and students personalising pavers installed around the facility. The site has received a complete makeover providing the local community with a bright and vibrant play space which includes:

    • New play unit and rubber softfall
    • Nature Play Obstacle Course
    • Refurbishment of existing shade structures
    • Cycle track
    • Raised vegetable beds

    A range of contractors and local volunteers contributed throughout the project, with a playground opening being held by the pre-school on Saturday 9th June 2018 at 11.30am.
